How to Create Audio Ads for Your Muslim Audience

In a previous article, “Targeting Muslim Consumers? Audio Advertising Offers High Conversion and Recall Rate”, we introduced you to audio ads for Muslim targeting. In this article, we dig a little deeper and furnish you with several research facts about audio advertising that are relevant for brands and marketers advertising to Muslims. We then go into detail on how to create an engaging audio ad for your Muslim audience.

Let’s jump right in:

Audio Advertising Stats

  1. Ad revenue in the audio digital channel has skyrocketed, with ad spending reaching $5.6 billion in 2021 and expected to reach $7.9 billion in 2025, outpacing growth rates in video, social media, search, and display. Source: eMarketer
  2. For many users, mobile accounts for more than half of their streaming audio listening time. Source: Inside Radio

“The home is becoming the dominant environment where streaming audio is consumed. It’s really turbo-charged the streaming experience, and the possibilities for advertisers.” — David Wiesenfeld, TransUnion

  1. The proportion of the US population aged 12 and up, who listen to online audio, is expected to reach an all-time high of 73% in 2022. Source:  Edison Research
  2. Only 7% of the US population owned a smart speaker in 2017, but by 2022, an estimated 35%, or approximately 117 million people, will own one. Source: Edison Research
  3. In 2022, 59% of households with smart speakers own two or more devices. Source: Edison Research
  4. Weekly podcast listeners listened to an average of eight podcasts. Source: Edison Research

“Audio as a channel combines the online and offline worlds, so there’s a constant effort to make sure full value is captured.” — Mike Kropko, Ad Results Media

Creating Audio Ads for Muslim Audiences

To ensure the greatest success with audio advertising, we encourage you to establish the approach the ad will take. Remember to keep the Islamic Advertising Principles in mind at all times.

Maintain a conversational tone in the script that matches the “voice” of your brand, whilst keeping ads simple and no more than 30 seconds long.

Your audio ads must create emotionally relatable narratives based on your product or service. An example of this would be a Hajj agency mimicking the emotions people feel when they see the Kaaba in Makkah for the first time in its audio ad.

Your audio ad must also have a well-executed sonic logo (a chime, like Mcdonald’s “I’m lovin’ it”) that complements the messaging of the ad script, and avoid prolonged periods of silence at the start and end of the ad.

Include clear, specific, and direct calls to action, ideally with the value proposition clearly stated within the first 10 seconds. This will serve as a hook to keep the audience’s interest and persuade them to visit brand websites or make purchases.

Create a special landing page for your Muslim audience if your goal is to get them to visit your site. Create a promo code for your product if you want them to get a discount. This will also enable you to assess the effectiveness of your audio advertisement.

While the script is important in audio ads, it will only work if the voice actor delivers it in a relatable and compelling manner. So make sure you recruit wisely. Whatever the case, avoid AI-generated voiceovers.

Decide on where you want your ads to be promoted. According to Forbes: “Traditional radio currently still outpaces digital audio in audience, reaching about 217 million to digital audio’s 169 million last year”. While radio has a larger reach, podcasts attract niche audiences that are extremely strong evangelists, and, as we stated earlier, digital audio ad spend is rising and will reach $7.9 billion in 2025.

If you’ve made it this far, you’re undoubtedly interested in reaching out to and engaging Muslim consumers. If that’s the case, let us assist you in achieving your goal in the most efficient way possible. If you have any questions, please contact Muslim Ad Network.

Is google adsense haram or halal?
The big 3 questions Muslim publishers ask about Google AdSense

Muslim Ad Network’s very existence came about because Tabish Hasan – CEO at MAN – owned a couple of popular Muslim websites, and wanted to monetize traffic through advertisements. He was not satisfied with the existing options such as Google AdSense as they did not take Islamic advertising principles into consideration.

For instance, the existing advertising solutions were ineffective when it came to properly filtering questionable ads from being shown to his Muslim audience

At the top of his mind were the three most frequently asked questions about the biggest ad platform: Google AdSense! Today we answer those questions once and for all!

Video clips credit: olia danilevich, kellymlacy, cottonbro, anthony shkraba production, yan krukov, karolina grabowska

1- What is the general consensus on using Google AdSense in Islam?

As always when it comes to matters of Islamic Jurisprudence, MAN must make the disclaimer that we are not experts.

Please make sure you perform due diligence before taking any action!

The basic principle is that it is not permissible to sign up for advertising programs unless one can be 100% certain that the ads served are free of any impermissible content. You do not want to be in a position where you are actually promoting ‘haram’ products.

Help you one another in Al‑Birr and At‑Taqwa (virtue, righteousness, and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in punishment

Source: Quran 5:2

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

Whoever calls others to guidance will have a reward like the rewards of those who follow him, without that detracting from their reward in any way. And whoever calls others to misguidance will have a burden of sin like the burden of those who follow him, without that detracting from their burden in any way.

Source: Saheeh Muslim (4832)

For Google Adsense to be permissible, you have to block the ads that go against Islamic rulings. We talk about blocking impermissible ads in the next chapter.

If you are unable to do that with 100% accuracy, and these ads appear on your site against your wishes then you have to leave this service. You do not want to be a partner in spreading and propagating haram (that which is impermissible).

If you know of an alternative platform that is 100% clear of ‘haram’ advertising while you are unsure of Google AdSense, it would be wise for you to use the alternative platform.

And Allah knows best.

MAN alternative: Muslim Ad Network was created on the very premise that Muslim publishers should never have to worry about the issue of the inaccuracy of blocking ‘haram’ ads on their sites, blogs, and apps.

2- How do you filter your ads on Google Ad Sense to make sure they are Halal?

Google AdSense helps you filter out ads they define as sensitive that you may deem inappropriate for your blog, app, or website. It has defined the following 17 categories that you can filter out:

  1. Birth control
  2. Astrology & esoteric
  3. Cosmetic procedures & body modification
  4. Consumer Loans
  5. Dating
  6. Downloadable Utilities
  7. Get rich quick
  8. Politics
  9. Religion
  10. Sensationalism
  11. Sexual and reproductive health
  12. Significant skin exposure
  13. Social Casino Games
  14. Video games (casual & online)
  15. Weight loss
  16. Gambling & Betting (18+)
  17. Alcohol

Clearly, there are many categories of ads that Muslims define as inappropriate missing from the list such as:

  • tobacco,
  • pork and other non-halal food,
  • interest-based loans,
  • and more.

With interest, for instance, you would have to completely block off entire categories – like finance for example – which would take away your ability to feature Shariah-compliant financial products.

On top of that, even if you block a sensitive category like #12 Significant skin exposure, you will still be hosting ads with significant skin exposure by Islamic standards. Google AdSense defines ads with significant skin exposure as follows:

“Ad images where any part of the adult human body from the sternum (breast bone)  to the mid-thigh is not clothed, or the body is clothed in underwear, lingerie, or other see-through clothes or non-clothing items such as a towel or bed sheet.”

So as you can see, it comes nowhere close to the halal dress code for neither men nor women.

MAN alternative: Muslim Ad Network works with Muslim brands and mainstream brands that adhere to Islamic advertising principles. You are guaranteed halal-safe ads without having to break a sweat.

3- Does Google AdSense allow ads to run on a site with Islamic content?

The short answer is yes: if your content is about the Islamic lifestyle or Muslim products, for example, it should not be a problem. As a category, religion can be filtered out by you as a publisher if the advertiser runs ads that advocate for or against certain religious views or incites hate for example. At the same time, your website will be banned if your content incites hate against other religions or religious sects for example.

Hate incitement through your website can mean:

  • purposely provoking hatred of a particular group,
  • distributing hateful material through your content,
  • making inflammatory public speeches,
  • creating your website to incite fear and misinformation, and
  • spreading racial discontent.

If your content does not feature anything of that nature Google Ad Sense has no reason to stop you from running ads on your website with Islamic/Muslim content.

Google states the following on its publisher policy page:

“…incites hatred against, promotes discrimination of, or disparages an individual or group on the basis of their race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or other characteristic that is associated with systemic discrimination or marginalization. Examples: Promoting hate groups or hate group paraphernalia, encouraging others to believe that a person or group is inhuman, inferior, or worthy of being hated.”

If you haven’t visited the Google Publisher Policy Page yet, it’s best to do so as soon as you finish reading this article.

MAN alternative: Work with MAN professionals and monetize your website, blog, or app under Islamic principles and MAN values that are designed for success in the here and the hereafter.

Conclusion

Even “brand-safe” ads can be clearly inappropriate for Muslim website owners and so they can’t feel comfortable earning money by showing “non-halal” ads on platforms like Google AdSense.

It has now been over 10 years since Muslim Ad Network opened its doors to Islamic publishers and advertisers. Hundreds of organizations have used MAN to reach over 250 million Muslims in 190 countries serving over 1 billion ads.

However, the internet keeps expanding and new publishers are popping up every day. So we decided to answer the three most common questions that are still being asked by Muslim publishers today.

Let’s take it one step further and check out the MAN publisher FAQ page to learn more about how you can monetize your content at Muslim Ad Network.

Muslim marketing trends 2022

In this final post of our 2022 marketing and advertising trends series, we round up 3 of the biggest upcoming trends for 2022.

We chose these three because they are not easily palatable like social media or paid ads. Many marketers are still trying to wrap their heads around these terms.

Understanding what they are and where they are heading can give you an edge against your competitors.

See also our previous posts in this series:

So let’s jump right in:

1- Customer Data Platforms (CDP)

The easiest definition of a CDP is:

…a software package that creates a centralized hub for (mostly first-party) customer data. It pools data from multiple sources into a single, unified customer database.

Source: Oktopost

CDPs are growing in popularity for marketers because of their ability to “unify customer data silos into a single customer view, and deliver transformational, one-to-one, omnichannel experiences through one platform”.

Source: Martech Intelligence Report

Marketers are not dependent on IT or development teams to run CDPs. This gives marketers full control over granular customer data capture, segmentation, and campaign orchestration.

CDPs are Neither CRMs Nor DMPs

This might start to become confusing so let’s demonstrate what each one is and isn’t.

Customer relationship management (CRM) systems, customer data platforms (CDPs), and data management platforms (DMPs) all gather customer data from various sources effectively. They are similar in how they collect and store data, but there’s more.

Here’s a head-to-head comparison between the three:

CDP versus CRM versus DMP
CDPCDPs eliminate data silos and unify first-party customer data into one platform providing a single customer view.

By analyzing this data in real-time CDPs predict which customers are more likely to purchase certain solutions.

CDPs can also tell when and why customers make those purchases.

Employees from relevant departments like marketing or sales can access information stored in CDPs.
CRMCRMs store customer data from all points of contact between an organization and its consumers.

This data helps customer-facing teams avoid asking repetitive questions while on the phone, subsequently improving efficiency and customer experience.
DMPDMPs capture and store large amounts of both structured and unstructured data. Think of audience data from online sources, web analytics, mobile, and even offline data.

Businesses can use this data for media purchases and ad placements.

DMP capabilities include gathering business intelligence data about enterprise digital media offerings to plan campaigns.

DMPs capture, organize and segment both first-party and third-party data.
CDP versus DMP versus CRM

Muslim businesses and organizations should seriously contemplate how they can benefit from their own first-party data with the impending death of the cookie. Understanding how CDPs function is becoming more important day by day.

Source: TechTarget

2- Privacy

The impending death of the cookie which has been delayed until 2023 is a product of many years of users being skeptical about online privacy.

Today, more than ever, consumers are worried about their digital privacy. This is why we see browsers and mobile operating systems distancing themselves from individual-level identifiers.

These technologies are shifting towards privacy preservation methods like aggregation and on-device processing for advertising.

Advice from Google

Here is what Google advises marketers to do on their Think with Google privacy guide:

  • Start using first-party data like customer purchase history more. It is accurate and privacy-safe.
  • Measure your first-party data accurately through proper tagging to have a representative view of performance across channels.
  • Activate your data with automation and pair your first-party data with other signals for the most accurate insights possible.

Getting privacy right in 2022 and beyond will be massively important. Muslim brands that can achieve excellence in protecting their user’s privacy will thrive. Those that don’t will take a nosedive.

Salesforce reports that 48% of consumers worldwide stopped buying or using a service from companies due to privacy concerns.

3- Metaverse

Metaverse is a virtual-reality world where users are able to interact with a computer-generated environment and other users.

Metaverse will advance even further in 2022. For instance:

  • Meta (formerly known as Facebook) has a new higher-end headset coming out codenamed Project Cambria which mixes virtual elements with the real world.
  • Apple is expected to introduce its first augmented and virtual reality headset.
  • StartUps 8i and 8th Wall developed live hologram video calls. The technology known as volumetric video can be accessed on any web browser, computer, or phone.

Virtual Products

The more technology there is for AR and VR, the more we are going to see mainstream brands sell more virtual products and advertising even more in these virtual spaces.

Speaking of virtual products:

“Today there is a veritable gold rush in the metaverse, with young people and celebrities like Snoop Dogg investing millions of dollars in virtual real estate. Fortune magazine called it a “multi-trillion-dollar opportunity.” It’s conceivable that a new generation will purchase their first house (or a unique share of it) in the metaverse.”

Source: CoinBase

We took a more detailed look at metaverse for halal and Muslim-friendly brands in a previous article. We advise you to take a look.

Conclusion

User privacy is a big issue today. Understanding how to get the best out of your first-party data is vital for success and maybe even survival.

Technology, on the other hand, is getting more advanced and the metaverse will bring in more opportunities for brands and advertisers.

The online world is changing and MAN has strived all year to keep you updated.

Islam and racism

The murder of George Floyd at the hands of four police officers started a conversation in our communities more powerful than the riots seen on television. The major media outlets may want you to see the current global movement spearheaded by Black Lives Matter as a headless rioting campaign. However, that is far from the truth. The conversation about racism needs us all to take a step back and assess whether our actions contribute to racial bias, prejudice, and persecution. As an advertising platform, we did just that. We took a look at advertising and its contribution to racism. We then went a step further and decided to take action against racism.

Racism in Advertising

“Hey, did you see that Chinese detergent ad where a Chinese woman throws her African boyfriend into a washing machine?”

“Yeah, not only does he come out squeaky clean, he turns into a fair-skinned Chinese man!”

There are countless ads that have received a backlash for their racist nature. You have to admit, these ads are entertaining and well-thought-out. One of the latest ads to stir controversy is Volkswagen’s ad which shows a giant white hand shoving a black man who happens to walk near the new Volkswagen Golf that just came out this year.

volkswagen's racist ad

“German television also suggested that the light-skinned hand could be seen as making a ‘white power’ gesture.”- Reuters announced in its article: Volkswagen Admits Car Ad Racist, Apologizes

This article is not about listing the top 10 most racist ads. But there is a whole array of racist ads you can find online. Some are intentional but one could argue that the worst ones are those that were not intended to be racist. Just imagine any other crime being committed so consistently with half the perpetrators not actually intending to commit that crime. What an awful world that would be.

Why Racist Ads are Dangerous

Racism in ads dehumanizes the objectified race, ethnicity, or nationality that is on the receiving end. In a world where people have stopped thinking for themselves and trust the ‘idiot box’ and other sources of media to do the thinking for them, such ads could be viewed as dangerous.

It is a well-known fact of history that ridiculing a certain group of people is the start of persecution. There is plenty of history out there that embodies this statement. Let’s look at the life of the Prophet of Islam; Muhammad peace be upon him:

Stage 1 – Ignored by the Quraish (the tribe of Makkah that he belonged to)

Stage 2 – Ridiculed and called crazy, poet, and magician

Stage 3 – Threatened verbally

Stage 4 – Attacked physically

Stage 5 – Boycotted together with his entire Banu Hashim sub-tribe

Stage 6 – Plot to murder him was concocted

Stage 7 – Driven out of his hometown: Makkah

Now, I just mentioned the dangers of advertising and media promoting racism. You are probably thinking, 7th century Arabia,  no media and no ads, so where is the connection?

Well, during the time of the Prophet peace be upon him, poetry was absolutely the go-to media source. If you wanted to know about what was happening around you, you’d listen to poets. History, politics, business, gossip, you name it. The ridicule, the fear-mongering, and so on all of that had its place in the poetry.

Racism in Media Fuels Hate Crime

Remember that Chinese detergent ad that I mentioned at the start of this article? There is no way that would fuel a hate crime. It may be distasteful but it is not inciting violence right? Well, not if looked at as a silo. However, as discussed earlier, this is the part where certain groups are ridiculed and basically dehumanized before the violence comes in.

The same media outlets have recently used the COVID-19 pandemic to kick out Africans from their homes in China, police confiscating their passports, and even acts of brutal violence have been committed against Africans in China.

Who can forget the “1 in 5 Brit Muslims’ Sympathy for Jihadist” front-page article that appeared in the Sun newspaper just a few years back? As a Muslim in the UK, you just knew what was coming.

Islamophobic media

Many Muslim sisters were attacked in public both verbally and physically. However, if you think about it. Such an article could not have been possible without decades of stereotyping Muslims and Asians on TV shows, advertisements both on TV and online that dehumanized that group of people. It easily creates an atmosphere of us versus them (the crazy, backward people living in our country).

And We Have Certainly Honored the Children of Adam – Islam’s View on Racism

And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.

(Quran 17:70)

No one has the right to take away the honor that The Creator Almighty gave to any human being. In fact, using an advertisement that disgraces and dishonors anyone is a serious offense against The Almighty.

Yet today, some brands will do anything in order to grab the attention of their audience even if it means dehumanizing people of a certain race, religious belief, or nationality.

O you mankind, surely We created you of a male and a female, and We have made you races and tribes that you may get mutually acquainted. Surely the most honorable among you in the Providence of Allah are the most pious; surely Allah is Ever-Knowing, Ever-Cognizant.

(Quran 49:13)

The word used to describe  “the most pious” in Arabic is ‘“Atqakum” which stems from the word “Taqwa”, piety. Well then, now we know who is supposed to be superior to all other humans right? Let’s look at the most religious guy with the best deeds and give him the title.

Well no, because the word ‘Taqwa’ comes back in a Hadith where the Prophet points to his chest three times while he says, “Piety is here”. This indicated to the followers that no matter how many good deeds or how long someone’s beard is, we can never know who is the most pious and consequently the most honored.

This is Islam’s stance on Racism which we Muslims consider to be the consequence of the world’s first sin; the sin of arrogance. Arrogance is the way of Iblis (Satan/Lucifer) which causes a person to look down on others. It was arrogance that made Iblis refuse to bow down to Adam claiming that he was superior.

[Allah] said, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” [Satan] said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.”

(Quran 7:12)

Muslim Ad Network is Taking a Stance Against Racism

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.”

(Muslim – On the authority of Abu Sa`eed al-Khudree)

At Muslim Ad Network, we do not have the authority to change the evil of racism with our hand. But we have the capability to change it with our tongue (meaning using media and communication).

This is why, as the largest Muslim advertising platform in the world, we are teaming up with Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative (MuslimARC).

MuslimARC focuses on human rights education and raising awareness. It trains Muslim communities on issues of racial justice. In order to uproot racism, they develop and deliver education on internalized, interpersonal, and institutional racism.

Muslim Ad Network will offer MuslimARC free advertising indefinitely to help them spread awareness. We will not stand still, we will not be among those who remain silent when witnessing oppression.

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” – Desmond Tutu

Traditional marketing and advertising methods that used to be effective in the past could serve the needs of any business and increase the demand for the product or service they offer. But times have changed, and while the need for marketing is still necessary, the channels  which are most effective for marketing process have changed. We are all witnessing a great digital transformation which is imperative for all businesses, from the small to the enterprise. Whether B2B or B2C, all companies now have to keep up with this digital transformation using digital marketing tools and strategies in order to survive.

Digital marketing is the complete marketing process of a company or brand which encompasses all marketing efforts that use an electronic device or the internet. In today’s digital era, companies leverage digital channels such as search engines, social media, email, and other websites to connect with current and prospective customers. Digital marketing is a wide concept which include different marketing terms such as SEO,  Email Marketing, App marketing, Content Marketing, and Affiliate Marketing. In other words, while traditional marketing have communication tools such as print ads, direct mail or personal sales, digital marketing can occur electronically and online. This means that there are a number of endless possibilities for brands including email, video, social media, or website-based marketing opportunities. Today, we all live in a digital age and experience a period when people trade through social media channels, where the millennials study their lessons through Youtube and a new technology enters our lives every second.

In this case, companies should change their perspective. Instead of waiting for their target audience to come to them, they should be active in the digital world and reach the right target audience through the right medium. The most logical way of doing this is to follow the changes and trends in the digital world closely and determine the digital strategies that will make them successful.

Since digital marketing trends have been changing drastically every year, companies need to stay up-to-date on the upcoming trends so that they can manage all business processes effectively.

Let’s have a look what are the digital trends for 2020.

1. AI

Artificial intelligence will take over the world! Or at least the world’s simpler jobs. We saw this coming, and we will continue to see it. We are at the beginning of a period in which artificial intelligence is in place and human labor is reduced and turned into more quality oriented works. For instance, we will proceed directly with artificial intelligence for deficiencies in advertisements on a marketplace site, but maybe we will leave customer satisfaction to people again.

As another example, Microsoft and Uber are two companies – in addition to malls, sports arenas and campuses – that are using Knightscope K5 robots to “patrol parking lots and large outdoor areas to predict and prevent crime. The robots can read license plates, report suspicious activity and collect data to report to their owners.” You can rent these R2-D2-like robots for $7 an hour — which is less expensive than a human security guard’s wage. Moreover, this year, Google’s transition from AdWords to Ads and the use of artificial intelligence more extensively in campaign bidding strategies is enough to highlight the importance of artificial intelligence technologies for 2020.

2. Voice Search

Voice Search uses the power of speech recognition to search the web. Instead of typing use voice input to quickly and easily search for the things you care about. Although it seems like a brand-new concept, voice search technology has been around for a while. Programs such as speech-to-text and voice dialing are great examples of voice search. Over 25% of adults in the US own a smart speaker like an Amazon Echo or Google Home.

A new generation search type is now familiar with us and it is more common hearing these voices around.

“Alexa, how many Americans own a smart speaker?”

66.4 million, or over ¼ of adults in the US.”

or

“Hey Google, How far away is the Moon?

“The Moon is 238,900 miles from Earth”

In addition, 31% of smartphone users worldwide use voice-activated search, like Siri, at least once a week. It is estimated that in 2020, 50% of all searches will be voice searches. That makes voice search one of the biggest online marketing trends of 2020.

More and more people continue to use Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and Google Assistant.

Voice search is different from typical desktop or mobile search. When you open Google in your browser and type your question, you’ll see hundreds of pages of search results. It’s not that hard for you to be one of them. But when you ask Siri a question, it will only give you a few specific results. Often only one, yes 1. If your website is one of them, you are lucky and you should adapt your SEO strategy for voice search. It may sound like a fantastic forecast right now, but by 2020, half of all search queries are predicted to be voice-based.  3. Personalization

Consumers want brands to deliver personalized products and services without any effort in exchange for their shared personal data. Companies that meet this expectation can achieve increased customer satisfaction, better basket amount and turnover as well as higher brand value. It’s no coincidence that giant brands like Apple and Amazon are the best companies in personalization. Personalization continues to advance as a successful way of influencing the future of the digital world.

According to research conducted by the digital marketing technology company Signal in the USA, a 60% increase is observed in the conversion rates obtained through personalized advertising. 53% of online consumers are more satisfied than retailers who offer a personalized shopping experience. The fact that 45% of users prefer websites that offer personalized product recommendations indicates that this ratio will increase as more recommendations are offered with more accurate personalization.

With hyper-personalization, which is one step ahead of personalization, it is possible to offer personalized products, promotions, discounts and advertisements to the user automatically. In hyper customization, the algorithms are used to determine what the customer needs before  provide detailed insights and enable person-based targeting.

4. Interactive Content

A recent research has shown striking results on the success and reliability of interactive content applications. According to the study;

o   two-thirds (66%) of the respondents stated that with the introduction of interactive content tactics, user participation increased,

o   four out of five content markers (79%) say that combining traditional content marketing tactics with interactive content makes the message catchy, and

o   two-thirds (67%) of the participants agreed that interactive content provided new ways of reformatting passive content.

Netflix, which is one of the world’s largest content producers has introduced interactive titles over the past few years and it first started with the Bandersnatch series.the way Netflix does it is to offer users choices which refer to specific timestamps. The way you can see Netflix doing this is on devices like PS4 which allow you to debug your watching. In the top right, you can see a time bar. When important decisions come around, the title can jump to other points in time. This type of content really impresses the audience deeply because the audience decide the course of the story.

Also, YouTube has set up a new team for interactive content and live features and is planning to offer brand new content to its audience.

5. Shoppable Posts

Instagram shoppable posts are changing the way people shop. Up until recently, adding a link to an Instagram bio was the only organic way for e-commerce stores to drive traffic from Instagram to their landing pages.

However, with shoppable links, suddenly brands have been given the opportunity to turn their Instagram accounts into visual stores, adding product tags and information to their images and linking to product web pages.

On Instagram when you tap a post, you may notice that a little shopping bag comes up in the lower left corner as does a price tag over the object.

From here users clicks on the tag  and reach a page that contains a product description, similar items featured on the same post and other shoppable posts from the brand. Then, if the consumer taps the “Shop Now”, they’ll go directly to the product page. For online retailers, this is a great way to drive traffic to product pages.

Retailers have been using shoppable for a few years, whereas it is believed that they will become one of the rising trends in 2020.

6. Video Ads by Influencers

The video advertising market continues its growth trend every year in 2020. In 2020, the most popular advertising model will be video ads. Users who encounter a lot of advertisements are bored and give importance to quality content in advertisements. The increase in the use of ad blocker applications is the most concrete indicator of this. Therefore, it is expected that there will be a trend towards Influencer Marketing.

7. Augmented Reality (AR)/ Virtual Reality (VR)

In 2020, the number of Augmented Reality (AR) users is expected to exceed 1 billion. Moreover, it is possible to think that AR will be used four times more than its brother Virtual Reality (VR). AR technology is currently being used successfully by several brands. For example, IKEA, the world’s largest furniture and home decoration store chain, offers users the chance to see how furniture from their homes will look in their homes by it “Place” app. As an affordable application example; Estée Lauder, an American makeup and body care product manufacturer, uses Facebook Messenger chat bots to let users experience makeup products instantly. This technology is very expensive to make similar applications of IKEA. Therefore, you should consider the cost aspect and try more affordable solutions like Estée Lauder. Video content is one of the most common uses of AR. YouTube, Snapchat and Facebook watch more than 22 million videos daily and this number is increasing every day. With regular video content, users will only be able to draw attention for a few seconds, while AR technology can bring attention to 50 seconds. Similarly, you can use this technology to strengthen your brand communication on social media platforms.

Consumers who only need a little motivation to buy can be more easily convinced with AR. Many brands do well behind-the-scenes communication. “We are transparent, our production process is very transparent, come and observe us from production to delivery”. This transparency and sincerity also turns to them as a plus. AR can help such companies to show their experience from miles away, for example to a restaurant, customers before they step into the restaurant.

8. Email Marketing

Email is still one of the best channels you can utilize to nurture leads and get the sale, but it would only work if you study the data and have the right strategies for your business. It also helps to have an open mind about any upcoming trends, including artificial intelligence, robotic process automation and content intelligence. Email marketing is expected to be used more in 2020, due to increasing advertising costs and lower reach rates.
